With more awards and a ‘diamond’ theme, the 10th Anugerah Skrin awards show is aiming for the stars, writes SHARMILA BILLOT.
WITH “diamond” as its theme, it’s going to be a sparkling show when the 10th Anugerah Skrin awards ceremony is held in November.
The TV3 awards show is aimed at honouring the entertainment’s industry best actors, actresses, directors and filmmakers.
This year’s event sees the addition of a new award (Best Supporting Role for Male & Female in the film category) on top of its 21 existing awards - so there’s now nine for TV drama, comedy and serials, seven for films and six for other TV productions.
The nominees, selected based on AC Nielsen ratings, are productions screened from July 1 of last year until June of this year.
Twenty-one feature films are vying for Best Film. They are Cinta Yang Satu, Haru Biru, Kayangan, Impak Maksima, Otai, 1957: Hati Malaya, 9 September, Misteri Orang Minyak, Nana Tanjung 2, Anak Halal, Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang, Cuci, Dunia Baru The Movie, Anak, Duyung, Akhirat, Evolusi KL Drift, Congkak, Cinta U-Turn, Apa Kata Hati?, Pensil and Sepi.
The other awards are Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Male and Best Supporting Female.
There are nine awards that dramas/comedies/serials are vying for. They are Best Drama, Best Male Actor, Best Female Actor, Best Male Supporting Actor, Best Female Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Television Screenplay, Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Drama Series.
For productions other than dramas, the awards are Best Documentary/Magazine, Best Talkshow, Best Musical Programme, Best Entertainment (non-musicals) Programme, Best Reality Programme and Best Special Report.
There are 18 nominees for dramas, 13 for serials and six for comedies.
The nominees for dramas are Kehangatan Lantana, Ihsan, Tuhan Pun Tahu, Cinta Si Rempit, Suara Saleha, Cari Pulanglah Di Aidilfitri, Nasi Lemak Lebaran, Kebun Tok Mudim, Calon Madu, Wasiat Fitrah, Raya Sedondon, Abang! Mak Panggil Balik, Relung Kasih, Aku Bukan Buaya, Jangan Lupa, Hang 2 and Kembalikan Amanda.
Nominees for serials are Jelatang, Iris, Manjalara, Bella, Takdir Yang Terindah, Bicara Aur Dengan Tebing, Tangisan Bulan madu, Bilik No.13, Akademi Polis, Pendekar Lima, Elly, Ghost and Jangan Main Belakang.
The nominees for comedies are Mr. Mama, Bujang Antik, Depan Rumah Sebelah Kedai, Pak Pandir Moden, Gaia and Di Bawah Ketiak Isteri.
TV3’s chief executive officer, Datuk Amrin Awaludin, said this year all television stations under Media Prima Berhad, Astro and RTM will be participating.
“There are many new faces this time around and I see this as a positive sign,” he said, adding that he hoped this would spur the industry to come out with better quality work.
