Heartfelt Talk By Farid

Farid and Irma are keen to dispel the rumours of why they broke up.

After his break-up with actress Irma Hasmie, actor Farid Kamil turns his attention to his career, writes HAFIDAH SAMAT.

THEY say feel-good romances don’t guarantee happy endings.

When actor Farid Kamil’s romance with actress Irma Hasmie ended, he was determined to let nothing get in the way of his career.

“We just grew apart and decided to go our separate ways,” said the 27-year-old actor.

“I have no regrets. It’s pointless lamenting over it,” said the Kedah-born actor, who has acted in 20 films since he burst onto the scene in 2002.
The last couple of years have been hard on Farid, who is currently pursuing a degree in Performing Arts at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam.

He’s had to endure media “bashing” on his “inaccessibility” as well as rumours of him cheating on Irma.

“I realised the best thing to do is to stop reading negative write-ups about myself. When people ask me about the breakup, I try to give straight answers. The media is more relaxed with me these days.”

Understandably, Farid and Irma attract considerable attention from the media, wherever they go.

This was evident at the recording of TV3’s Melodi Rumah Terbuka Raya at Sunway Lagoon in Petaling Jaya, recently.

A reporter from a Malay tabloid approached Farid for a photo opportunity and interview with Irma.

When Farid declined, the reporter approached Irma who also refused.

However, after much coaxing from a senior journalist, Farid agreed to the interview.

Farid said he is determined to put a stop to rumours about why they broke up.

“Irma and I have remained friends. We still call each other to talk,” said Farid, who was last featured in director-actor Pierre Andre’s romantic comedy, I’m Not Single.

After the breakup, Farid said things were not really looking up for him.

“People criticised me for acting irrationally but I don’t intend to disclose why our relationship ended,” he said.

When asked if he missed Irma, he said: “In my heart I do”.

Irma, who looked resplendent in a white kebaya and sarung, smiled coyly.

“I can’t help but smile each time I think of our time together,” she said.

Farid, who was nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal in Anak Halal (helmed by Osman Ali) at the 21st Malaysian Film Festival in August, is in the midst of preparing for his upcoming film venture, Ransan.

In December, Farid who recently signed a five-year contract with Metrowealth International Group, will make his directorial debut in the action-packed Rempit V3.

“I can’t reveal much about the project. There are some issues to be resolved but I hope everything will work out before filming begins,” said Farid.
